A Quinceañera is a traditional Latin celebration of a girls's coming of age on her 15th birthday (From the Spanish "Quince Años" or 15 years) it is a celebration of womanhood which helps the young woman prepare for the responsibility that comes with growing up. It is a tradition dating back to the Maya Indians and has been part of the Catholic religion for more than 400 years. Today it is a cultural reminder and social event held in Latino communities across the country.
